The following are just a sampling of the projects currently underway to create global repositories of taxonomic data for scientific use. Many of these sites include information relevant to the study of invertebrate paleontology and paleoecology, and thus are of interest to me personally.
In the bigger picture of MIS research, several of these projects would fall into the category of collaboratories. Research on collaboratories is currently being conducted by the Science of Collaboratories project (University of Michigan / Howard University, with funding from NSF), and so I have included some links to that site as well.
