Comprehensive Fossil Muricidae Species Checklist

The table below is a product of my ongoing efforts to compile a list of all known fossil Muricidae taxa, and includes information (when available to me) on each species' geographic / geologic range, as well as relevant comments. Please note that not all taxa listed here are valid, and where possible, I have noted those that are not. Obviously, there is a lot of work left to do, and thus I intend to continue adding to, and improving upon, this list as my schedule allows.  Feel free to send me corrections and additional information to help fill in the blanks!

NOTE:  Species are listed alphabetically by species name, since there may be disagreements as to the proper generic placement for particular shells.  Generic assignments and species synonymies are based heavily on the writings of Emily Vokes (Western Atlantic region), Geerat Vermeij (Ocenebrinae / Rapaninae), and Didier Merle (France / Europe).  Please refer to my literature references page for more information, and please, do not copy or otherwise reproduce the information in this table without first asking for my permission.
